Here we go, into the last week of the semester! For teachers and students alike, it is crunch time. We may wonder what is the value of this mentality. In a word, accountability.
If we have not final product to strive for, no matter what we are working on, it feels a bit...pointless. Is that safe to say? Why practice a sport if there will never be a game? Why plan a music or play performance if no one is going to see it? The same holds true for education. The other night at the choir concert, it occurred to me that we all do our very best when we know others are watching. Ms. Faletto did an amazing job preparing kids for the show and the community was there to see it. What would happen if the community had a stake in what we did in every classroom? It's scary to think about, for sure, but might it also be good incentive for us to better demonstrate what we have accomplished?
That's all finals really are: proving what we can do. Showing off a bit even? Let's make the best of all we have learned this semester and use this chance to show off what we know. We'll seem so smartacle. :)
